Maurelio HUARACA SANCHEZ - [ Ceramics ]
Taller Maki Ayllu
Jr. Panamá Mz. 14, Lt. 4ª

Maurelio Huaraca Sánchez was born on January 20, 1968 in the district of Quinua, Moya, Ayacucho. His parents are Alejandro Huaraca and Juana Sánchez and they are a large family of 11 siblings.

Since he was a boy, for the impulse to play and the lack of toys, he created playthings from clay, and from this his love of the artisan craft was born. He also would help out on the farm of his grandfather, who was a great artisan that made practical pieces for his own use and for bartering with distant villages. At the age of 12 Maurelio began to work with his friend in the village. At the age of 15 he arrived in Lima due to the problems with terrorism in his region. His siblings were already settled in Lima and helped each other to carry on with their lives. He began to work with Emiliano Orellena in Chorrillos, who helped Maurelio perfect himself in the artisan craft. In the year 1988 he arrived in the village of Lurin—or better put the desert of Lurin, being that it was nothing but bare land. He learned how to get ahead along with his neighbors, and the desert of Lurin converted itself into a beautiful and clean city.

In 1990 he married a splendid woman named Hilda, who has given him three beautiful daughters who are his reason for waking up in the morning, and for whom he works tirelessly. He further developed the artisan craft of toy making, and now he creates beautiful nativity scenes, sailboats, lamps, and Christmas ornaments which he sells in Lima and even exports.
